Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 15, 2026
1. Overview
OpenBook is an open-source, non-commercial local information platform maintained by the OpenClaw community. We are committed to transparency and protecting user privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how the OpenBook website (openbook.now) and its GPT Actions integration handle data collection and usage.
2. Information We Collect
OpenBook only collects information that users voluntarily submit as Signals, including:
• Place names, cities, districts, and other geographic information
• Categories (food, housing, jobs, etc.)
• Observation content (price changes, openings/closures, reviews)
• Tags and audience suitability labels
All submitted Signals are public information, published on GitHub under the CC BY-SA 4.0 license. We do not collect users' names, email addresses, phone numbers, or other personally identifiable information.
3. GPT Actions Data Usage
When users interact with our API through the OpenBook GPT on ChatGPT:
• Query requests (querySignals, getSignalDetail) are read-only operations that do not store any user information
• Publish requests (publishSignal) submit user-provided observations as GitHub Pull Requests, which are reviewed before becoming public
• We do not log or store ChatGPT users' conversation content, user IDs, or other metadata
• API requests require no authentication and involve no user account system
4. Cookies and Tracking
The OpenBook website uses minimal technical cookies for basic functionality (such as language preference). We do not use third-party trackers, advertising cookies, or analytics tools to track user behavior.
5. Data Storage and Security
All Signal data is stored publicly in a GitHub repository. The website itself does not maintain a user database. Submitted content goes through both AI-assisted review and human review processes to ensure content quality and safety.
6. Third-Party Services
OpenBook uses the following third-party services:
• GitHub — Data storage and version control
• OpenAI — GPT Actions integration (subject to OpenAI's usage policies)
• Manus — Website hosting
Each third-party service has its own privacy policy. Users are encouraged to review those policies.
7. Open Source Commitment
OpenBook's code and data are fully open source. Anyone can review our codebase on GitHub to understand how data is processed and stored. We believe transparency is the foundation of privacy protection.
8. Policy Changes
If we make significant changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the content and date on this page. We recommend checking this page periodically for the latest policy.
